The US Food and Drug Administration has announced Florida's new state conservationist, based out of Gainesville.

Juan Hernandez will oversee 33 natural resources conservation service field offices, four area offices, a plant material center, and the state office in Gainesville.

Hernandez grew up on a coffee plantation in Puerto Rico and says there he learned the importance of caring for the land.
