FHP Trooper fatally hits pedestrian in Marion County

MARION CO., Fla. (WCJB)-- According to the Florida Highway Patrol, trooper Raul Umana, 25, was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 441 near southeast 74th Terrace, early Wednesday morning.

A 73-year-old pedestrian was walking northbound on the southbound side when Umana struck him. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Fire Rescue.

The pedestrian's next of kin have not been notified yet, so their identity will not be revealed until then.

Lt. Patrick Riordan told TV20, trooper Umana had previously been involved in an I-75 crash back in 2014 where multiple people were injured. No other details were given.
