Farm Fact: Blueberries

Blueberries are known as a superfood filled with cancer-fighting anti-oxidants and can help reduce cardiovascular heart disease and risk of stroke. Consuming half a cup of blueberries a week can slow memory loss by two and a half years.
Alachua County is one of five in Florida to contribute to the majority of the state's blueberry production. The season typically begins in March and ends by June.
The southern highbush is the most commonly grown blueberry bush in Florida. You can enjoy fresh Florida blueberries this summer from your local grocery store or from one of many U-Pick farms in our area.
