AVENTON, NC. (WCJB) -- In North Carolina, four people and two dogs were killed after their small plane went down in the town of Aventon. All of the people on board were Florida residents.

Detectives say they were flying from Naples to Maryland. Neighbors first discovered the wreckage and called 911.

The plane is a Piper PA-46, which is capable of carrying a pilot and five passengers. It's unclear though what caused the aircraft to go down.
