Former Gainesville City Auditor files lawsuit against the city
A former auditor for the City of Gainesville has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the city.
Court documents filed in Alachua County say Carlos Holt accuses the city of firing him after he released an audit report about the Reichert House, an afterschool youth program run by the city.
Holt is accusing the city of violating Florida's Whistleblower act.
“Ever since he was unceremoniously fired by the commission without any chance to go and have his issues addressed, he’s had trouble finding work, securing employment at the rate of pay that he was enjoying while employed with the city. In fact, he has been forced to move outside of the state as a result of this whole incident," said Holt's attorney Kenneth Hesser.
Documents also say private information about Holt and his family members has been sent to "various members of the public."
Holt has filed a request for a trial by jury.
A representative for the city says they don't have a statement at this time because of the pending litigation, but they will provide additional comments when the ongoing audit of the Reichert House is complete.
