Fort White residents upset over water utility changes

FORT WHITE, Fla. (WCJB)- Some residents in the Town of Fort White are upset after receiving a letter saying they have to switch over to the town’s water system if they currently use a well.

Residents say they received a letter at the end of January saying if they have a well water system at their home, they will no longer be able to use it.

The letter also sites an ordinance adopted in 1998 that puts a ban on private wells and says residents should be connected to a municipal water utility

Residents are now asking why this is just now being enforced

"Whenever I purchased this home, I was really excited about the thought of not having that additional water bill anymore and being able to put that money aside for different things my family needs and I think a lot of people in this small town are probably living on this same fixed income and have those same concerns," Fort White resident Casey Key said.

Dozens of residents are planning to discuss the letter they received at Monday night's town hall meeting that begins at 7 pm.
