Fundraiser in Gainesville raises money for shelter animals in need of treatment

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A fundraiser was held at the Big Top Brewery in Gainesville Friday night to support HAARTS, which is operated by UF's veterinary outreach program.

HAARTS has provided at least 20 shelter animals in Alachua County with medical treatment so far this year.

The event featured a raffle and appearances by animals who have been helped by the program.

“So what HAARTS stands for is ‘Helping Alachua’s Animals Requiring Treatment and Surgery,” and so we’re pretty much out here raising money to provide medical treatment to shelter animals," said UF veterinary student Taylor Burfeindt.

HAARTS is completely funded by donations.
