GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — A Gainesville man was arrested Sunday after police said he dragged his girlfriend while she was hanging from a moving car.
According to the arrest report, Detron Williams, 28, was driving back to Gainesville from a party in Citra when he started accusing his girlfriend of cheating on him.
Police said Williams then turned off his headlights and ran through several red lights while speeding. When his girlfriend tried to call for help, Williams stopped her and punched her several times.
Williams eventually pulled over and his girlfriend tried to get out of the car, so he grabbed her and started driving in reverse, dragging her until he let go and hit her with the open door.
When police arrived, they found the girlfriend lying on the ground and needed to be transported to the hospital.
Williams was charged with aggravated battery, false imprisonment and preventing communications to law enforcement. He was booked at the Alachua County Jail with bond set at $275,000.
