GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gainesville Police say that one person was shot in the leg after an argument turned into a shootout on 11th Ave. in Southeast Gainesville.

GPD says that around 1:00pm Friday afternoon, two people got into an argument near Lincoln Middle School and Joseph Williams Elementary School. They started following one another in their cars and, somewhere between 14th and 13th Streets, shot at each other.

One person in one of the vehicles was shot in the lower leg and taken to UF Health Shands Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and Gainesville Police are still looking for the shooter or shooters in this case.

The shooting did force a temporary lockdown at both Lincoln Middle and Joseph Williams Elementary Schools, which has since been lifted. GPD said that no one in the schools was in harms way and that the lockdown was a precaution.

GPD continues to investigation this case and we will update this story when more information is available.
