GPD arrest suspect in Oak Glade shooting death
A man is in jail after a woman was shot and killed at Oak Glade Apartments in Southwest Gainesville this week. 33 year old Eukelia Davis was shot and killed. Gainesville Police believe it was 51 year old Pablo Johnson.
Police arrested Johnson after he confided in his counselor Thursday morning, telling her "he messed up real bad and thinks he might go to prison."
"He told this person that he got into a fight with a woman the night before and the woman was no longer breathing and had not moved from the time of the fight," said GPD Public Information Officer Ben Tobias.
The police report read 8 bullet holes were found, 3 bullets hitting Davis, and the rest going through walls and into neighbors apartments.
"Some witnesses are telling us they heard what they though sounded like gun shots late Wednesday night at what sounded like 9 or 10, and then some of them said they heard gunshots or what sounded like gunshots about 5 in the morning on Thursday," said Ofc. Tobias. At the time though they believed the noise to be fireworks.
Police said the couple has been involved in domestic situations before but friends of Johnsons said they never expected it from the veteran who grilled for the neighborhood in his backyard.
"He was calm and even-keeled guy. He didn't bother nobody, stayed to himself, like most of us veterans," said Clarence Jackson, a neighbor. "I didn't have no indication that something was going on with him or something was going on in his apartment."
Just days before, a text message from Davis to her dad reads "if something ever happens to me. Pablo J Johnson September 3 1965 did it. i love u."
Johnson was taken to the hospital after he had a medical episode during his interview. He was then taken to the Alachua County jail.
