GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- GRU is sending mutual aid assistance to South Carolina utility provider Santee Cooper ahead of Hurricane Florence, according to a media advisory by GRU.

On Saturday, September 15th, GRU will be sending a team of 18 employees and contractors to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to aid in restoration efforts with Santee Cooper, the state’s largest power provider.

If asked, they will also go to North Carolina.

“Florida was the grand recipient after Hurricane Irma and it’s time for us to return the favor and help our neighbors during their time of need," said David Sparks, GRU Electric Transmission and Distribution Manager

The power company is anticipating one to three million homes and businesses could lose power during Florence for several weeks.
