GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Alachua County Sheriff's Office has arrested 60-year-old Paul Williams after they say he sexually assaulted a woman on the side of NW 13th Street just outside of Gainesville.
According to Williams' arrest report, the incident started in April 15 of 2019, when the victim and he were at the house of a mutual acquaintance. The home owner was trying to help her find a ride home and Williams offered. When they were on their way Williams stopped at a convenience store where he bought the victim a fountain drink.
She said she started "feeling fuzzy" after drinking it, and a short time later she found herself in the woods, slipping in and out of consciousness. She says that Williams was top her.
Once she fully regain consciousness, she found her way to a nearby Walmart, where she stayed in a restroom for most of the next day.
The victim would later identify Williams in a photo lineup, and the owner of the home, where Williams and the victim met, says that Williams confessed the crime to him, saying, "I took what I wanted."
Williams was arrested on Monday, August 12, and is being held at the Alachua County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
