Gainesville High School student to compete in national science competition in D.C.

9th grader Janani Kumaran is headed to Washington D.C. for the national competition of the "Broadcom MASTERS" sponsored by the Society for Science and the Public.
Kumaran’s project tests the effectiveness of a certain snail in helping eradicate invasive "hydrilla," which crowds out native plants in area waterways. Hydrilla can also fill up lakes and ponds, depleting oxygen for fish.
More than 100,000 dollars in awards is on the line when the finalists meet October 19-24.
