Gainesville city commission to consider hiring security guards for city hall

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Despite having a police force, the Gainesville city commission is thinking about hiring full-time security guards for city hall.

A contractor currently provides guards on a limited basis, but city staffers have determined a need for full-time armed and unarmed security for some city facilities.

If approved, the proposal would have armed guards assist in shutting down Dignity Village at the end of the year . The cost would be up to $175,000.

The Gainesville city commission meets Thursday at 1 p.m.
