GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -

A Gainesville man is behind bars for attacking a woman and holding her against her will early Saturday morning as well as two counts of drug possession.

Deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office say they found 53-year-old Levan Junior Ware with a woman at the La Quinta Inn on Northwest 69th Terrace.

Officials say the woman was crying and "visibly shaken" with scratches under her chin and left cheek.

She told police she hid in the bathroom for an hour after Ware tried to have sex with her. Afterward, the woman and Ware began to talk before Ware tried to forcibly enter the bathroom and she closed the door on his hands.

According to the arrest report, the woman said she did so because she was in fear for her safety.

Officials say Ware then grabbed the woman and threw her to the ground when she tried to leave.

The woman then locked herself inside the bathroom again, this time banging and screaming for help.

Ware is charged with four third-degree felonies; battery, kidnapping and false imprisonment, and two counts of drug possession. He has been charged with battery on two other occasions as well, once in 1993 and another in 2001.

Ware is currently being held in the Alachua County Jail. His bond has been set at $70,000.
