GPD arrest man for putting credit card skimmers on ATMs

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- Gainesville Police arrested 30-year-old Ricardo Oliveira for putting credit card skimmers on ATMs.

According to the arrest report, Oliveira was captured on an ATM surveillance video on the night of May 30, 2018, putting credit card skimming devices at the Suntrust Bank on Newberry Road, and the Suntrust Bank in Haile Plantation. He later retrieved both skimmers that same night.

6 people had their information stolen from these incidents.

According to GPD, Suntrust Bank is familiar with Oliveira due to him and his group placing skimmers in multiple ATMs of the bank throughout several states.

Oliveira and an accomplice were previously identified in two previous Gainesville credit card skimmer cases from 2017, and have been able to defraud Suntrust of over $13,000.00.

According to the report, Oliveira and the group he is associated with have accumulated nearly if not more than, $1,000,000.00 with these fraudulent acts.

Oliveira and his accomplice are both from Brazil and are currently in the U.S. on a visa.
