GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The City of Gainesville is offering to help some low-income homeowners repair their houses.
The housing rehabilitation program helps resident's whose homes have a safety issue, but no funds to fix it.
Things like leaky roofs, faulty air-conditioners, or plumbing problems are what they are looking to help with.
But if the home is found to be structurally unsuitable for repairs, the city could also offer a complete home replacement.
"Some repairs require major overhaul, if you will, and what that does is we have a rehab specialist that comes out and determines if the house is feasibly sound in structure to do the rehab repair." says Helen Harris, with Gainesville Housing and Community Development.
Funding for the program is provided by state and federal grants and applications are accepted year-round as long as funding is available.
