The city of Gainesville has something in common with New York City, Paris and Auckland, New Zealand. Gainesville is being recognized by the United Nations and the Arbor Day Foundation for its dedication to urban forestry.

Gainesville is now a "tree city of the world" for 2020. Only 59 cities around the world earned the designation. To earn recognition, cities had to meet five core standards for managing city trees and forests.

A post about the recognition can be found on the City of Gainesville's Facebook page.
