Gator Growl attracts thousands despite rain delays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- They brought out the rain gear and after waiting for more than an extra hour in rain delays, thousands of Gator Fans attended one of the largest student-run pep rallies in the nation.

"We kinda love Gainesville, the Gators, and we had a really great experience going to school here from 80 to 84 and saw some really great acts here.” UF Alumni George Najmy said.

He says he’s have seen everyone from Robin Williams to Jerry Seinfeld take the stage.

"So it was kind of a big deal back then,” he said.

Friday night was a little different, with thousands of people rushing to the stage for a chance to see artists Ty Dolla $ign and Walk The Moon.

"We're just really excited, we just transferred here so I'm just trying to get involved and seeing everything UF has to offer and I know that I've heard amazing things about it,” Hannah Altman, a UF student, said.

Head Football Coach Dan Mullen also made an appearence to wish a Happy Birthday to UF President Kent Fuch.

This year’s Gator Growl marks another experience for Najmy, proving "It's Always Great To Be A Florida Gator".

"It's just a great sense of community for the school to bring everybody together homecoming weekend. A great kick-off to celebrate,” he said.
