The Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office has signed on with a non-profit organization called the "Grit Foundation."
The charity provided breakfast for deputies and will soon be raising money to help the sheriff's office buy equipment which their budget can't afford.
The idea is to create a single organization that can accept donations from the public who want to help but aren't sure how to do it.
Kat Cammack is a Co-founder fo the Grit Foundation, she explained. "Sometimes those city budgets or county budgets don't meet all the needs that a department in 2018 has so that's where we come in. We generate community support to raise funds to cover the equipment for training or even things like k-9's for departments which don't have the funds.
Among other needs is a new k-9. The Grit Foundation raises money for all first responder agencies to provide equipment. It started here in North Central Florida and currently has signed agreements with six area counties: Alachua, Clay, Union, Bradford, Putnam, and now Gilchrist.
