High levels of bacteria found in the Withlacoochee River

SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) More trouble is ahead for waterways in North Central Florida.

Two months after millions of gallons of sewage spilled into the Withlacoochee River near Valdosta, Georgia, the state Department of Health has issued another health advisory for the river.

Testing has revealed a high level of fecal bacteria in the water.

People with the Suwannee River Water Management District have yet to determine the source of this bacteria, but they suspect that it did not come from a smaller spill on Monday.
