18-year-old William James Westberry, of Clewiston, was arrested Friday after Gainesville police say he stole a gun out of another man’s car.

According to Westberry’s arrest report, the victim told police an unknown man entered his car on Southwest 2nd Avenue and took his “Smith and Weston .357” firearm.

Police were able to match fingerprints on the vehicle to Westberry, who initially denied taking the gun.

According to investigators, Westberry was identified in surveillance video, by his mother, entering the victim’s car and taking the gun.

Westberry was booked into the Alachua County Jail on charges of grand theft of a firearm.
