MICANOPY, Fla., (WCJB) -- A change for one Micanopy business is now creating a buzz among residents.
The Herlong Mansion will now be able to serve beer and wine after a vote from Micanopy leaders.
"it benefits everyone, all the business owners, all the residents of the town and the community," stated Dina Michael.
Dina Michael is not only a Micanopy business owner but is also the president of the town's chamber of commerce and says it's her job to promote the business interests of Micanopy.
She says she wrote a letter to town leaders in support of the Herlong Mansion receiving a beer and wine license.
Three months later town leaders have now voted three to two to allow it.
"The letter was about the new owner of the Herlong who has been a complete asset for this community he's done a lot of renovation, he's very respectful to the history of the town, and he hosts weddings and all types of events in which alcohol is served.," stated Michael.
Jerry Morris owner of Sunflower Garden in Micanopy says the iconic town landmark is what attracts people to the historic area and says the license being permitted is going to be good for business in the area.
"Yeah, it'll help mine and everybody else. The Herlong Mansion is a fantastic asset to Micanopy I can't see anything better than that being here," stated Morris.
The license will only allow guest and friends of guests to be served.
TV20 reached out to town leaders for a statement but we have not heard back. We also reached out to the Herlong Mansion owner, who says he's excited about the decision and is now waiting for the state to review and approve his license application.
