GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- Update: 11/27/2019 6:14 a.m.

A woman and her dog are displaced after a fire burned through her home Tuesday making it a total loss.

Multiple units responded to the fire at a home on Waldo Road near UF's Austin Cary forest. Officials are still trying to determine how the fire started.

James Clifford, the Alachua County Fire Rescue district chief, said the house was fully involved when units arrived on the scene. The occupant of the home had fortunately escaped, Clifford said.

"She was unsure how the fire started," Clifford said. "She said it could have been the stove or it could have been a heater so that's under investigation."

Traffic in that part of Waldo Road has been reopened.
