'House of Prayer' property in Micanopy is up for auction
It's a home with a history... some of it pretty bad. The home is most commonly known as the 'House of Prayer' in Micanopy is up for auction.
Inside the 120-year-old home, there is a stillness, a vast history.
Auctioneer Brad Campen takes us through the home. We get to see where so many families made the property their home over the years.
But for a period of roughly 10 years, beginning in 1983, sinister activities took place.
In 1983 it became known as the 'House of Prayer', which residents said became a cult.
What remains of that time can still be seen in the front yard of the property.
"There was a segment of time that some bad things happened here but the rest of that is all good,” Campen said.
The leader of the 'House of Prayer', Anna Young, was taken into custody in 2017 for starving a toddler and she remains in the Alachua County jail.
Her next case management hearing will on January 30th.
Even with this violent history, Campen said this hasn't deterred prospective buyers from showing interest in the property.
"We showed the home a few days ago and the lady knew about the story and she loved the house, so she's very interested in it,” Campen added.
The current owner purchased the property in 2012 and is now selling for personal reasons.
There will be two open houses coming up in February for prospective buyers with the auction taking place Saturday, February 29th.
