In This Week's "What's Growing On" We Visit a Champion Cow Milker

ARCHER, Fla. (WCJB)- Chris Decubellis has always had a family cow. He says his father taught him how to milk a cow when he was 3 years old. Now he owns a cattle ranch and takes a lifetime of skill to UF IFAS each day.
Chris works as a state specialized agent for dairy and animal science and is involved in the 4H youth development program.

After winning the "qualifying rounds" at the University of Florida for cow milking, Chris went to Moultrie, GA in October to represent the University in a cow milking contest at the Sunbelt Ag Expo. He competed against other universities and won. He says the win came as a surprise, but that he's glad to represent "orange and blue".

There were no secrets to share about what makes a cow milker a champion, but he says his father taught him the right method. That is to grasp the top and work your way down "kind of like a roll".
