GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- This month is Islam Appreciation Month and the University of Florida's “Islam On Campus" held a fair to educate people about the religion.

The fair at the Plaza of Americas consisted of different booths such as Henna which is body art, Arabic calligraphy, and history about the religion. Anyone who attended each booth received a free meal.

The theme this month is “Who am I?" and the director of the event wanted to share her identity with others.

“I felt it was time for us to reclaim our narrative, reclaim our stories, reclaim our identities,” Islam Appreciation Month Director Wafaa Ateyah said. “And then we can’t only reclaim ourselves, we have to rediscover ourselves and discovering ourselves is a constant journey."

UF's “Islam On Campus" will have six more events throughout the month.

One of the events will consist of an all-woman Muslim panel discussing their experiences in the professional world on Feb. 14 in the Reitz Union at 6 p.m.
