ALACHUA, Co., (WCJB) --- Its the week to celebrate telecommunicators throughout the profession. They answer 911 calls, send ambulances, fire departments, and police officers to people in need.
Dispatchers are behind the scenes and are often forgotten about but they play a key role when it comes to handling emergencies
" We consider ourselves the first first responder meaning that we're the first person you're going to talk to and we're going to be the ones to get you in touch with the help you need," stated Danika Lubold, ASO Communication Supervisor
From saving lives to helping with delivering babies, Lubold says that the Alachua County Sheriff's Office takes about 500,000 calls a year.
