An under-the-radar Gainesville institution is set to close its doors for good on Friday.
La Familia Cuban Sandwich Shop is set to close after 25 years serving authentic Cubans on Southwest 16th, just off 441. The most remarkable about this diamond in the rough: owner Terry Sapp and his son have been driving fresh cuban bread up from Tampa every single day. Now in his 70's, Terry is retiring, leaving many loyal customers that have become like family, looking for a new lunch spot.
"Everyone that worked here, we all became brothers and sisters and Terry was like, he was the godfather to all of us. It will be an epoch in time capsulized here in Gainesville and it will definitely mark its change into a new era without him," said former employee Augie Wenger.
If you would like to visit the shop tomorrow they'll serve their last cuban sandwich at 4 pm.
