Lake City residents are being asked to avoid driving on Highway 90 and Bascom Norris Drive. Thousands of emergency assistance vehicles are using the Columbia County fairgrounds as a staging area.

More than a thousand power line trucks, tree service trucks, Red Cross vehicles and buses are waiting for possible evacuations.

The emergency vehicles are in Lake City because of its central access to highways, I-10 and I-75.

Organizers are hoping to avoid traffic jams with the many trucks coming and going.

Residents who try to use the road will have a long wait, and could also cause traffic on Highway 90 once those responders are deployed. Officials say staying off those roads will save travelers time and make sure help can get to people in need.
