UPDATE 9:20PM: The situation has ended peacefully. Officials say the woman and child are safe, and the man is fine. Sgt. Brett Rhodenizer with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office says no crime was committed, so no arrest will be made.

Rhodenizer added that the situation started as a domestic dispute, and evolved into a standoff between law enforcement and the residents of the home. ACSO, as well as Gainesville Police, became involved because there were known to be weapons in the home.

UPDATE 8:00pm: Law enforcement is no longer calling the scene a hostage situation.

Police in High Springs are actively working a hostage situation where a man has barricaded himself inside a home with both his spouse and young child.

According to Deputy Police Chief Antoine Sheppard, assistance is being provided by the Alachua County Sheriff's Office off Railroad Avenue near Catherine Taylor Park.

A call came in about a domestic disturbance around 5:30 p.m. today in regards to a 40-50 year old Hispanic male, possibly armed and irate.

Several streets are blocked off in the immediate area and residents are urged to stay inside until the situation is over.
