Local COVID-19 precautionary cancellations

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- Representatives with UF Performing Arts say events at their venues have been canceled, postponed, or rescheduled until March 30.

The venues include the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the university's auditorium, the Baughman Center, and the Squitieri Studio Theater.

All ticket holders will have the opportunity for a refund or an exchange.

Marion County has canceled all of these events:
Pine Run Estates Advisory Board meeting at the Pine Run Community Center that was scheduled for March, 19.

Marion County Stormwater Management Section cancellation*
Run 4 the Springs at the McPherson Governmental Campus that was scheduled for April 4.

Marion County Veterans Services cancellations*:
Welcome Home All Veterans Day ceremony at the Ocala/Marion County Veterans Memorial Park that was scheduled for April 4.

All Lake City board and council meetings (including the March 16 City Council meeting) have been canceled through March 31, 2020.

The College of Central Florida canceled all on-campus and online classes the week following spring break to prepare for a temporary transition to online classes.
Faculty and staff will work Monday, March 23, to prepare for the transition. Classes will resume on Monday, March 30, online until at least April 12.

The Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville has closed to the public until further notice. All museum events in March have been rescheduled or canceled.

The Columbia County School District will be closed from March 16 through March 27. All extracurricular activities, including all FHSAA sanctioned events, will be canceled for the next two weeks.

Suwannee County Public Schools will close from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. All extracurricular programs, athletic events and after school programs are canceled for this time.

Levy County Public Schools will close for the next two weeks. Twelve-month employees need to report to work as usual during both these weeks.

Teachers should not come in to work on the Teacher Workday that was scheduled for Monday, March 16. All extracurricular activities, both academic and athletic, are canceled from Saturday, March, 14 to Monday, March, 30.

Alachua County Library District will close all branches and bookmobiles from Sunday, March 15 through Sunday, March 29, 2020.

Ocala Civic Theatre effective Saturday, March 14, 2020, all public performances and events will be suspended through the end of March. This includes Father of the Bride and the 79 For 70 world record attempt.

Anthem Church will not be hosting services at this Sunday. Events scheduled for this weekend along with Inside Out are also cancelled. We will keep you updated about future weekends.

Gilchrist County Public Schools Superintendent Rankin has announced that all schools will be closed for the next two weeks. All extracurricular trips, competitions, and events for this same two-week period are canceled. During these two weeks, all schools will be deep cleaned.

Alachua County Public Schools will remain close starting March 16 until March 27.

They say the plan is to reopen March 30 after deep cleaning. Employees need to report to work on March 16.

Marion County Public School will close for the next two weeks starting March 16 until March 27. All extra-curricular activities during the same time period are canceled.

The Youth Job Fair, held in partnership with Marion County Public Schools, scheduled for March 31, has been postponed until further notice.

Focusing on Your 21st Century Workforce conference that was set for April 23 and is now scheduled for July 23. Those who have already bought tickets may request a refund or they may keep their reservation.

Marion County officials have canceled the Master Gardeners' Spring Festival, the area's largest plant sale, and garden expo. This would have marked the 26th year for the Spring Festival, scheduled for March 14 and 15.

SwampCon released a statement on Facebook canceling their event scheduled for this weekend. Staff is currently figuring out how they will proceed with the event in the future.

The Lake City Columbia County Chamber of Commerce president, Mike Williams, released a statement, postponing the 5th Annual Gateway City Craft Beer and Wine Festival until October 10, 2020.

A representative of the Oak Hall School says they will be shutting down campus operations starting Monday, March, 16.

The school says no employees have tested positive for COVID-19, however, one staff member was potentially exposed to it. They have already begun work on an online educational system for their students and plant to start using it on Monday.

The week of March 23 is their spring break, after which they will re-evaluate if they can re-open the campus, which could be as early as March 27.

Catholic Charities Gainesville has announced the Spirit of Charity Gala 2020 that was supposed to take place on March, 28 at the Reitz Union has been canceled.

Gainesville Regional Airport and University Air Center have canceled their annual Gator Fly-In and Armed Services Appreciation Day that was scheduled for March, 21, at the University Air Center.

If you purchased aircraft rides in advance on the EAA's Ford TriMotor or the Commemorative Air Force's T-34 Mentor, all pre-booked flight reservations are being fully refunded, by the ride providers.

Santa Fe College will move classes online effective Monday, March 16, through at least March 30, 2020.

The Northwest Campus and all other centers will be open and staffed as usual and continuing to provide student services. The college will continue open as long as it is safe and based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, the Florida Department of Health and local health agencies.

Partnership for Strong Families’ Library Partnership Resource Center was supposed to host its annual Health & Wellness Expo on Tuesday, March 17. The event was going to be held at the Library Partnership from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event is now canceled.

Santa Fe College has canceled the 51st annual Santa Fe College Spring Arts Festival. They say they are looking forward to next year's festival on April 10 and 11, 2021.

NHRA has released a statement announcing that they are postponing a portion of the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals.

The sportsman categories contested on Thursday will complete competition this weekend without ticketed spectators. Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle, Pro Mod, Factory Stock Showdown, Top Fuel Harley, Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car will compete at a later date to be determined. Current tickets will be honored at the rescheduled event or ticketholders may opt to use their tickets as a credit toward the 2021 Gatornationals.

Dance Marathon at UF announced Thursday that the organization along with the university, the CDC, and UF Health, have decided they will no longer be hosting the event on the weekend of March 28-29 at the Stephen O'Connell Center.

The SEC Men's Basketball Tournament has now been canceled. This comes after the tournament started Wednesday. The Florida Gators were set to play their first game in that tournament Thursday afternoon.

The Big Ten, Big Twelve, and other conferences have also announced their men's basketball tournaments are canceled.

President Fuchs released a statement that in accordance with the guidance issued by the State University System and in response to COVID-19, the university will remain online until March 30.

Fuchs is also encouraging students to return to their homes and remain there until March 30. If students can't return home campus resources including dining halls will remain open for those students.
