GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The Pride Community Center of North-Central Florida is offering self-defense classes and law enforcement will be involved with the program as well.
The Pride Community Center and the Gainesville Police Department will be hosting R.A.D. Or Rape Aggression Defense classes.
The class is being offered to females or those who identify as female in the LGBTQ+ Community. The Pride Center said this program is "endorsed by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA), National Academy of Defense Education, and the National Self-Defense Institute (NSDI)."
According to the Pride Community Center's website, "A wide range of tactics, including verbal techniques, ground defense options, escaping from bear hugs and choke holds" will be presented at the event. The classes will be offered on January 27th, 28th and 30th from 6 pm to 10 pm.
R.A.D. classes will also be offered at the University of Florida and will be hosted by the University of Florida Police Department.
