MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB)-- UPDATE (5:55pm, Feb 14, 2019): The Marion County Sheriff's Office has arrested the teen they say was shown in a video, shared on social media, that shows him hitting a cat with a rock.
MCSO has arrested 15-year-old Isaiah Diehl and charged him with aggravated animal cruelty, which is a felony. They say he turned himself in to Deputy Lucas Karr. Diehl is being held at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Facility with no bond.
MCSO began investigating the incident once a video, captured from the social media and video sharing app SnapChat, was brought to their attention. Diehl was identified by a person in that video.
The 3 to 4-month-old kitten shown being injured in the video is being treated for severe facial trauma at Marion County Animal Services.
“It is truly disturbing that an individual would even think of doing something like this, and the suspect being a juvenile makes it even more shocking,” said Sheriff Billy Woods. “There is absolutely no justification for any form of cruelty to our animals, and we will always seek justice for our citizens and our little furry friends.”
The Marion County Sheriff's Office says that they are now investigating after a video was shared on various social media platforms showing what appeared to be a teenage hitting a cat with a rock. That video was purportedly shot somewhere in Marion County.
Deputies were able to find the cat depicted in the video and take it to Marion County Animal Services where it is recovering.
The video began making the rounds on Facebook on Tuesday, and quickly went viral. Comments poured on many of the posts, expressing disgust with the actions of the teenager.
Many comments called for action by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, who now say they will update the public once more is discovered during their investigation.
