UPDATE: Family Dollar robbery suspect arrested

Gainesville Police released the name of the man involved in an armed robbery and stand-off Monday.

According to the arrest report, Joshua Noah Sams, 19, approached a man at gunpoint near the Church of Jesus Christ on Southeast Hawthorne Road and demanded his wallet.

A Family Dollar employee recognized Sams as the suspect that robbed the store on January 9th and told police he was seen near Tiger Bay Apartments.

Police found Sams hiding in a closet inside an apartment.

A press release from GPD said Sams was confirmed as the suspect in the Family Dollar robbery.

Sams was charged with armed robbery, resisting arrest and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He was booked at the Alachua County Jail with bond set at $40,000.


A man is being questioned by Gainesville police following an armed robbery and stand-off.

Around 3:00 p.m. Monday on Southeast Hawthorne road near 24th Street, the Gainesville Police Department says a man was robbed at gunpoint.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, stole the victim's wallet.

Later, a tip led officers to Tiger Bay Apartments where officers found the suspect hiding in a closet with a gun.

He was identified by the victim as the robber.

Police tell TV20 he fits the description of the robber at the nearby Family Dollar on January 9th.
