OCALA, Fla. (WCJB)-- To celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week, the Ocala-Marion County Visitors and Convention Bureau hosted an open house Friday.
Members of the public were invited to learn more about Florida’s tourism industry.
Guest speakers included Karl Kaufman with the World Equestrian Center. He talked about how Marion County is growing.
Tourism experts told TV20 News tourists bring in over a billion dollars a year to the Marion County area.
“Tourism is the number one industry in Florida,” said Loretta Shaffer, the Tourism Director for Marion County. “We here in Marion County have certainly prospered from tourism and so we’re here to recognize National Tourism Day and Week and really celebrate all of the successes we’ve seen not only here in Ocala and Marion County but in the state of Florida.”
For those unable to make it out to the open house, the bureau is open to visitors on West Silver Springs Boulevard.
