Memorial held for former University of Florida provost

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- Friends, family, and students celebrated the life of a former University of Florida provost Tuesday afternoon.

The memorial was held at the University Auditorium.

President Kent Fuchs and other university leaders shared their admiration for Dr. David Colburn.

"He understood the importance of rankings and the significance of metrics, but he never lost sights of the people involved. He reminded me that enrollment goals were important but that students and learning were more important, “ UF Professor of History Jeff Adler said.

Dr. Colburn joined the history faculty in 1972 and would go on to serve as provost while the university went through re-accreditation.

He passed away last month at the age of 76
