Florida has one of the most diverse ecosystems in the united states and is home to over 300 different species of trees.
Today morning side nature center hosted a Forest Stewardship Field Day, which included 45 participants ranging from master gardeners to private forest landowners. Those in attendance got to learn how to identify plants and trees in their natural habitat.
Chris Demers, an UF/IFAS extension agent says, “they are going to walk away with an understanding of some strategies to use to identify forest trees and plants and the skills that they learn today they can use on their properties or in their volunteer work with the master gardener program or the master naturalist program.”
The teachers included a professor from the University of Florida and an ecosystem restoration specialist from the city of Gainesville.
