NCFL Animal rescue organizations become one

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- The Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue, and Helping Hands Pet Rescue are joining forces.

The organization will be named the Humane Society of North Central Florida.

The facilities will remain the same but the logo on each one will be changed to a new one.

"Being one combined organization is going to help us do that with few resources and more community support,” Margot DeConna, Director of Development, said.

The announcement defintely barked up excitement at the third annual Woofstock Fundraiser Thursday night.

Woofstock is an annual fundraiser put on by the Alachua County Humane Society to raise money to help shelter animals find their forever families.

Last year, the Humane Society achieved a no-kill status.

“We know that we need to be providing outreach and support and resources to those other surrounding county municipal shelters to increase their life-saving rates as well,” DeConna said.

Alachua County Humane Society - Humane Society of North Central Florida

The Humane Society of North Central Florida is our community's leading resource for pets and pet owners. Our mission is to eliminate the needless euthanasia of healthy and treatable pets in North Central Florida. Formerly the Alachua County Humane Society, Gainesville Pet Rescue and Helping Hands Pet Rescue, we joined forces in 2018 to streamline services for pets and the people who love them.
