GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – A home in Gainesville could have been destroyed by fire if not for an observant neighbor.

The house on northwest 23rd street caught fire around 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. A neighbor saw the fire and called 911.

Alachua county fire crews arrived to find the deck on fire with the fire spreading inside the home. They were not only able to put out the fire, but they also rescued a dog inside the house.

No one was home at the time of the fire.
