TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCJB) -- Governor DeSantis signed into law House Bill 487, which will allow paramedics embedded with law enforcement to be armed in high risk situations, like a SWAT operation.
The bill requires the medics to have a concealed carry permit and to go through necessary training at the department they are employed with.
Some law enforcement agencies, like the Broward County Sheriff's Office, have been vocal supporters of the bill.
TV20 spoke with Capt. Jorge Campos of the Gainesville Police Department, who said the law will allow tactical medics to carry weapons into dangerous situations, giving them the option to defend themselves.
