NEWBERRY, Fla. (WCJB) -- Block parties enabling unlawful activity will not be tolerated in the city of Newberry.

Marlowe wrote there’s a recent trend of block parties taking place in the city as of late. He describes the block parties as events typically occurring late at night, sometimes lasting into the early hours of the morning. They can take place at a venue under false pretenses by the renter or in a neighborhood, often ending in violence.

According to Marlowe, the city wants citizens to host fun events and activities so long as regulations are followed in executing such events in the appropriate environment.

Mayor Marlowe warns in a social media post the unauthorized parties permitting unlawful road closures and advertising fake permits won’t be allowed in Newberry.

In the post, Marlowe asks citizens privately notify law enforcement if they hear of an unauthorized block party being organized.
