North Central Florida crime rates decrease in 2018

(WCJB) -- The number of crimes committed in North Central Florida during the first half of the year fell in most counties.

The new FDLE Uniform Crime Report for January through June showed the crime index fell in every county in our region except Alachua county. The numbers rose thanks to a jump in aggravated assaults and burglaries over the same period in 2017.

The biggest drop in crime was in Dixie and Union counties.
Gilchrist county had failed to report their numbers in 2017.
Across the state, crime fell by eight percent.
