NCFL student wins statewide Black History Month essay contest.

DUNNELLON, Fla (WCJB) -- Chloe Lundeen of Dunnellon High School has won the statewide Black History Month essay contest.

The theme was "celebrating public service" and the winners were recognized at the Florida governor's mansion.

Lundeen wrote her essay on James Armistead Lafayette, who served in the Continental Army as a slave and helped the US win the Revolutionary War.

Lundeen will receive a four-year Florida college plan scholarship as her prize.
