OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) -- UPDATE: Ocala Police have identified the shooter and the victim in this case. OPD says 54-year-old David Johnson shot and killed 30-year-old Carli Cronin at the Walmart on East Silver Springs Boulevard.
They say he then returned to at their home on NE 35th Street, just a few miles away before shooting himself. Upon last report, Johnson was still alive, but police say they don't expect him to survive.
The Ocala Police Department says that there was shooting at the Walmart on East Silver Springs Boulevard this afternoon, November 24, 2018, that has left the victim, a 30-year-old woman, dead. Police say that the suspect left after shooting the victim, and then shot himself. He has not died of his injuries at the time this article was publish, and is being treated for his injuries at an Ocala hospital.
Ocala Fire Rescue says that they responded the the Walmart a little before 2:30pm, after reports of an active shooter. Police say that a domestic dispute in the Walmart's Garden Center turned deadly when the male suspect shot the female victim, despite efforts by Walmart employees to intervene. OPD says that the suspect then left on a bicycle. The victim was treated on scene and taken to the hospital, but despite Ocala Fire Rescue's best efforts, she died as a result of her injuries.
Police say that no one else was shot, but Ocala Fire Rescue says that at least one other person was taken to the hospital for injuries sustained while trying to escape the shooting.
Ocala Police say that not long after the shooting, the 55-year-old suspect went back to his residence, where he was found with a self inflicted gunshot wound. He was been taken to the hospital as well. He is not expected to survive his injuries
