OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - Thursday night, Ocala Fire Rescue held their Fallen Firefighter Memorial service downtown.
The service was accompanied by bagpipes and drums, which is a tradition in honoring fallen firefighters.
The fire chief Shane Alexander says that this is a way to take a moment to say 'thank you' to those who devote their lives to fire rescue. "As a fire chief, I ask about 130 people a day to risk their lives for the citizens and visitors of the city of Ocala. So this is an opportunity for the people that have given the ultimate price, for us to honor their families, and to see that through as an agency,"
The state's official Fallen Firefighter Memorial is tomorrow at the Florida State Fire College in Ocala, where four firefighters will be honored. The chief encourages anybody who has been touched by the life of a firefighter to go, the service starts at 8 am.
