Now that incumbent congressman Ted Yoho has announced his retirement, District 3 politicians are making the necessary calculations necessary in deciding whether to run for the open seat.

One of them is the mayor of Ocala.

Kent Guinn ran his candidacy up the flagpole Wednesday. He is "in the final stages of formalizing a run" for the seat, Guinn said.

It will be a crowded field. So far four other republicans – Joe Dallas Millardo, Matthew Raines, Judson Sapp, and Amy Pope Wells – have filed for the open seat.

Democrats Phil Dodds and Tom Wells have also filed.
