OCALA, Fla. (WCJB)-- UPDATE (1/28/19)
OPD explains that the couple who brought a grenade to a Taco Bell parking lot will not face charges.

OVER THE WEEKEND:
The Taco Bell restaurant on East Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala was evacuated briefly on Saturday evening after a man and his girlfriend called in the grenade they found while "metal fishing" on the Ocklawaha River.

Officials say the couple didn't realize the grenade they left in their car could be hazardous when they first got to Taco Bell. They made the decision to call 911 while at the restaurant and the building was evacuated as a precaution.

Officials identified the grenade as an authentic World War II weapon. The Ocala Police Department says the Marion County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad removed the explosive without incident and it is being disposed of properly.
