ALACHUA/OCALA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) -- The municipal utilities in Ocala and Alachua are part of a growing movement to go solar.
The two cities are part of the 12 member Florida municipal power agency, which broke ground on a huge new solar farm, Today they announced a second one.
The consortium plans to build a pair of solar farms in Alachua and Putnam Counties covering about 15,000 acres.
The second phase solar farms are expected to be up and running by 2023. The entire project is expected to generate enough power to run 75,000 homes.
