Deputies say it started when they responded to reports of a domestic dispute just before 9 pm. At the scene, deputies encountered 34-year-old Michael Goodale who was armed.
Deputies say they tried to use a taser to subdue him, but it was ineffective. After a violent altercation in which 2 of the deputies were injured -- they say they were forced to shoot him.
"I thought that maybe this would happen but someplace else not next door because he was into drugs and he would try to get them from somewhere and he would get killed there," says a family member, who did not want to speak on camera.
The two deputies involved are on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
This is the first case of this happening since 2005.
